Why you may be asked for your ID
We always aim to keep you safe and build trust in our community. Thus, we choose MangoPay SA — a legitimate and regulated payment service provider — to process all payments made via our platform.
MangoPay is a licenced electronic money institution regulated by Luxembourg’s supervisor of financial sector Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier. It stores and handles your money safely when you trade on Vinted or use Vinted Balance (provided as a financial service by MangoPay).
To ensure safety and security, MangoPay may perform the ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) procedure and collect additional personal data about you. This is a mandatory procedure required by law.
What is KYC?
Know Your Customer’ is a member identity verification procedure. As a regulated electronic money institution, MangoPay is required by law to apply it to ensure that their services meet the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing requirements.
By performing the KYC procedure, MangoPay ensures that payments on Vinted:
- Comply with legal requirements
- Meet the standards of payment security
The purpose of the KYC procedure is to identify members and help to ensure that they’re acting fairly and legally. That is, they’re not engaging in any fraudulent or illicit activities.
Providing personal data may seem inconvenient, but KYC plays a big part in ensuring a safe environment on Vinted. So, if you’re a seller with an active Vinted Balance, you might have to complete this procedure.

How KYC procedure looks like
You might get a request to provide a copy/photo of a document which proves your identity if you:
- Reach the sales limits (which are set by MangoPay)
- Act suspiciously (e.g. your provided banking details were previously provided by someone else, etc.)
You can provide one of the following documents:
- Your passport
- Your driver’s licence (provisional licence is suitable too)
The document must be clearly visible, complete (both sides) and not expired. We’ll immediately notify you if your document doesn’t match these requirements.
In rare cases, MangoPay might require further details, such as proof of address or a bank statement.
ImportantWe don’t store or have access to the documents you provide. They go directly to Mangopay, which is responsible for handling them securely.
Once you provide the documents and MangoPay analyses them, you may continue selling on Vinted hassle-free.
What If I don’t provide the documents?
If you don’t provide the documents, MangoPay might restrict you from withdrawing or using your earnings.
If you upload a suspicious or fraudulent ID, you’ll leave us no choice but to immediately and permanently block your account.

Legal grounds for confirming your identity
The data collection and its use for the purpose of conducting Know Your Customer (KYC) procedure is carried out by MangoPay to comply with the following legal obligations:
- Article 3 (2) (a) of the Luxembourg law of 12 November 2004 on the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing;
- Articles 16(1) and 18 of the CSSF Regulation N° 12-02 of 14 December 2012 on the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.
To enable MangoPay to fulfil its above-mentioned obligations, Vinted implemented MangoPay’s API - a technical measure that allows you to submit a copy of your document to MangoPay without leaving the platform.
This implementation is mandatory for the legitimate interest pursued by Vinted to enable payments on the platform by providing MangoPay with information they need to comply with the legal obligations.
